25 reasons to celebrate.

Last week I told you that I hit my own personal milestone – my MARTINI milestone – at 25 pounds*. So Tom and I got all dressed up and went out the other night to celebrate with…you guessed it… a martini. I swear I felt like a movie star. Or a TV star…well, you know what I mean. The attention from looking good as VALERIE compared to the “wasn’t she that skinny Barbara girl?” is priceless. I feel like I can go out now without the whispers. Look, I knew what everyone was thinking over the years and I don’t blame them.

Because…what did happen to me?

My old answer would have been something about the stresses of motherhood, marriage, career…but that’s not entirely true. Because, it was my RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD that was out of whack…unconscious eating, emotional eating…. Ok, I’ll blame Wolfie not sleeping through the night for my lack of exercise, but that was, like, 15 years ago. These last several years of on-again/off-again working out represent a priority problem. I wasn’t making myself – or my health – a priority.

The irony is that I spend MORE time with my friends and family now that I have committed to spending more time on myself than before. Crazy, huh? Maybe because I have more energy?

Oh, so many questions about how I got to where I used to be…but I’d rather focus on the NOW. Like…when’s my NEXT martini goal?
